Sysedit was a software utility included with Microsoft Windows used to view and edit important system files (protocol.ini, system.ini, win.ini, autoexec.bat, and config.sys) easily. The sysedit.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System, C:\Windows\System32, or C:\Winnt\System32 directory and was included with early versions of Microsoft Windows.

Note

Sysedit was discontinued with the release of Windows Me. However, it could be still run in Windows Me if it was copied from an earlier Windows version or existed from an upgrade.

How to open sysedit

Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP users can open the sysedit program by following the steps below.

  1. Click Start and select Run.
  2. Type sysedit and press Enter.
